Every Time You Shake It

Early morning hours
sleep's a distant thought
An eager mind, a touch of inspiration
such satisfaction can't be bought

I see it in my mind's eye
I see the lights outshine the sun
Though life may catch your blindside,
well the fight's just begun; we've just begun

Am I alone? I didn't know

What is your profession?
tell me your degree
Of lifestyle-centric motivation
how much will it be?

Don't know what I hope for
don't know how I would
What few things that I'm known for
may do me no good; do me no good

It's kind of like laughing without making sound
jump from forty stories, no fear for the ground
Otherwise I spend my time whining away
waiting for an answer that won't come today

It's kind of like laughing but you won't hear a thing
step outside of time, feel the peace that it brings
How else shall we spend our days? Where else might we go?
Must we always make it so hard?

Am I alone? I didn't know

Every time you shake it
I see you getting down
I recall my first vocation
the Grateful Dead in town

I try to keep my head clear
I try to walk the line
Our forbearers have tread here
But this is our time; this is our time

It's kind of like laughing without making sound
jump from forty stories, no fear for the ground
Otherwise I spend my time whining away
waiting for an answer that won't come today

It's kind of like laughing but you won't hear a thing
step outside of time, feel the peace that it brings
How else shall we spend our days? Where else might we go?
Must we always make it so hard?

Am I alone? I didn't know
