Falling Off the Fence
I
can't keep moving, and I don't know why
could be that I'm leading or being dragged along
I can't seem to tell, reach or ring the bell
sometimes the only choice is to choose a side
Don't look over your shoulder, or even side to side
it's a sure way to lose the path you tread upon
I like the one I'm on; let's not confuse the fun
I can't deny that it feels right in my bones
Oh it takes a toll to juggle both sides of the life that you've known
when you're falling off the fence
And it's hard, I know, to believe in the peace that will free your soul
when you finally fall off the fence
Not sure where my heart lies, or what I think it needs
I sure can tell you that it keeps me working overtime
Feels like I need to hurry; oh, for a break from worry
Ambition ain't no friend of peace of mind
Women have pierced my right flank; money drives my left
it might seem that the last song's knocking behind the door
But all's well, I attack - drive the mothers back
the battle's not won, but it sure as hell's gonna go on
Oh it takes a toll to juggle both sides of the life that you've known
when you're falling off the fence
And it's hard, I know, to believe in the peace that will free your soul
when you finally fall off the fence
And it seems you can't enjoy the show
you're in your head you know
and you can't expect to see
All the ways that life will let you know
though you tread a less traveled road,
you're where you want to be
Oh it takes a toll to juggle both sides of the life that you've known
when you're falling off the fence
And it's hard, I know, to believe in the peace that will free your soul
when you finally fall off the fence
