As Abe Was Walking
Dawn
breaks over Chicago,
taste the early morning air.
The sunrise clears my thinking,
the lakeshore does its share.
Oh,
and the waves sure soothe the soul.
You can reverse a river's direction,
least that's what I've been told.
Insight
isn't elusive,
if you only time it right.
Like heading east on a very busy highway,
in the middle of the night.
Oh,
with the windows all rolled down.
And the music makes me want to
drive clear across town.
I'm
going down to scope this city's scene.
They got a lot of less traveled roads there,
I read it in a magazine.
Settle into stride, and let a little laughter rise.
Strange sunsets broaden horizons,
don't worry if you squint your eyes.
In
an over crowded city,
no leg room for us or them.
Like the middle seat on an airplane,
and it's just about four a.m.
Oh,
but you can just about see forever.
And as the sun peeks through
my mind considers future endeavours.
People
in their cells,
social calendars on the mend.
Watching life from a distance,
like a tourist on the Seine.
Oh,
float by the d'Orsay.
I get the impression
of another man's day.
I'm
going down to scope this city's scene.
They got a lot of less traveled roads there,
I read it in a magazine.
Settle into stride, and let a little laughter rise.
Strange sunsets broaden horizons,
don't worry if you squint your eyes.
Dusk
falls over the Southland,
and I can't seem to find what I found when I left.
Daddy's on Vine caught my mind but I find
myself spinning a globe , see where I should go next.
Oh,
cause the Earth keeps rolling on by.
As I approach what was once a silhouette,
a new one catches my eye.
I'm
going down to scope this city's scene.
They got a lot of less traveled roads there,
I read it in a magazine.
Settle into stride, and let a little laughter rise.
Strange sunsets broaden horizons,
don't worry if you squint your eyes.
I'm
going home,
just how, well I sure can't say.
But I trust this road,
and the bumps along the way.
